China Deepened IP Cooperation and Exchanges with Thailand

On June 17 (local time), Deputy Commissioner Gan Shaoning of China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) led a delegation to visit Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) of Thailand, and had a meeting with Director General Thosapone Dansuputra of DIP.

Gan Shaoning pointed out during the meeting that China and Thailand are adjacent to each other and are related by blood. In recent years, China-Thailand relations had maintained a high level of development. CNIPA and DIP had good cooperation for over 20 years under bilateral, regional and multilateral frameworks. He hoped that the two offices may take the visit as an opportunity to further expand and deepen practical cooperation in all fields on the original basis of cooperation.

Thosapone Dansuputra remarked that China and Thailand were closely related and China was the largest trade partner of Thailand. DIP was willing to actively participate in the “Belt and Road” construction, implement the joint statement on strengthening practical IP cooperation along the “Belt and Road” approved in the 2018 High Level Conference on Intellectual Property for Countries along the “Belt and Road”, and conduct more in-depth reciprocal cooperation in the fields of patent, trademark and geographical indication.

During the meeting, the two sides also exchanged views on the future cooperation in the field of geographical indication, cooperation projects under the framework of “Belt and Road” as well as IP publicity and education. After the meeting, CNIPA and DIP signed a memorandum of understanding to promote cooperation on geographical indication.

During the visit to Thailand, the delegation also conducted field researches on the production, application, sales and protection of two geographical indication products, Nakhonchaisri Pomelo and Samphran Aromatic Coconut. (Translated from CNIPA Website Chinese Version)
